Manitoba, Canada- The Agassiz Youth Centre will soon have state of the art security enhancements to its perimeter fence. Louis Goulet, Executive Director for Youth Correctional Services, says the Centre is undergoing a three hundred thousand dollar security upgrade which should minimize the incident of escapes. The "Perimeter Intrusion Detection System" will allow staff to detect intrusions from inside and outside the facility the moment a person touches the fence. Goulet notes additional enhancements will include extending wiring three feet above the chain link to prevent anyone from scaling the wall from either side. He adds the security upgrade should be complete in another month---contingent on weather conditions----making Agassiz one of the few institutions in the country to benefit from this technology.
